Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
